Saying so long to summer is certainly hard, especially as we inevitably turn to face the long winter months. However, we do get fall! While it is a short season, it really is a lovely reprieve right before the cold. The changing colors of the leaves are beautiful, but it does get a bit sad when you see more leaves on the ground than in the trees. Fortunately, there are some things that remain beautiful throughout the entire fall season, and one of those things is flowers. Not all flowers of course, but a fair few. Let’s take a look at some of our favorites…

1.) Aster

While you can choose to grow aster as a fall perennial in several regions, you can grow it as an annual as well. They flower in shades of white, blue, pink, and purple, and provide a nice contrast to the typical end of season color scheme. Also, they are some of the best plants around to feed both butterflies and bees in the fall.

2.) Sweet Alyssum

Known for its lovely fragrance, this flower usually grows along the ground creating a beautiful cover of coloring. Sweet alyssum can also be positioned to spill over the edges of your gardening containers like a waterfall. If you reside in a mild region of the country, then you’re in luck! In mild areas, sweet alyssum can bloom throughout the fall and winter since it tolerates cool weather quite well.

3.) Ornamental Pepper

Ornamental peppers are not supposed to be eaten, but rather looked at. They are a perfect option for an autumn garden, and come in shades of red, orange, and purple. There are also all sorts of shapes and sizes to choose from. Spice up your garden with some ornamental peppers!

4.) Celosia

This is a choice that is both durable and easy to care for. Celosia also happens to fall right in line with the traditional color palette of the season. Some of those colors include orange, red, purple, and bright yellow. These are a perfect choice for adding some vertical texture to the other fall flowers in your garden, and look especially good along the garden border.
