Spring is here, which means it is time for spring cleaning. Typically, homeowners focus their cleaning efforts on the inside of their houses, but the outside needs love too! Get your backyard ready for Memorial Day BBQs, or prepare your garden for spring planting season. Once the temperature starts to warm up, you should get ahead on spring cleaning for your landscape. Continue reading for a general checklist for your spring cleanup efforts.

Take Care of Your Lawn

The winter months may have left a mess on your lawn–dead grass and leaves, litter, and debris. Before you begin the fun stuff, you must clean up all the unwanted mess from your lawn. Next, you need to prepare your lawn for planting and fertilizing. Rake up leaves, pinecones, and thatch build-up and dispose of them. Now it is time to revive your grass–sprinkle a mixture of grass seed and fertilizer to regrow grass in areas damaged from snow, salt, or other winter elements.

Flowers, Shrubs, and Garden

Springtime is the perfect season to maintain your plants and flowers. Revive your shrubbery by removing dead, dying, or diseased branches; this will help give them a better shape and return to health. Same with flowers in your garden–removing dead leaves, weeds, and debris from your garden beds is important to give your flowers room to grow. Divide your perennials, add new mulch, and prep the soil to grow new plants and flowers in your garden!

Patio and Walkways

Make sure to spruce up your patio before hosting your BBQs. If you have metal or plastic patio furniture, clean it well with a mixture of dish liquid and warm water and then let it air dry. Use a soft cloth, mild soap, and water for wicker furniture to clean away dirt and grime. Let all furniture air dry in a different space while you clean your patio. Mix one cup of baking soda with two cups of distilled white vinegar and pour it over the patio before using a scrub to clean.
